Chamber Classics: the John Salmon Trio
The JOHN SALMON TRIO has thrilled audiences in the U.S., China, and Eastern Europe with concerts featuring exhilarating interpretations of both jazz standards and new charts. Consisting of John Salmon, piano, Steve Haines, bass, and Thomas Taylor, drums, their performances have been described as “animated in the way that only old friends can be” (Quiet Bubble Blog). The Trio’s most extensive and exotic tour was to China in the spring of 2007, with 10 concerts in 7 cities. Salmon, Haines, and Taylor also toured Moldova and Ukraine (2003) and have given concerts in Colorado, Mississippi, Virginia, Kentucky, and North Carolina. The John Salmon Trio performs a wide variety of jazz standards, from Cole Porter’s “Just One of Those Things” to originals such as Salmon’s Latin number “Mambo Madness.” All three musicians are faculty members at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music.
