Just Friends Jazz

Just Friends Jazz was formed in 2014 with Gary Schwartz on piano, WPS Youth Symphony conductor David Wortman on sax and flute, and WPS timpanist Charles Smith on drums. The group focuses on traditional jazz standards in public and private venues, with an emphasis on both performance and education. For Side/Show, the group will feature Nathan Hefner as a special guest on piano. 

Lissie Shanahan

Lissie Shanahan is the Principal Flutist of the Asheville Symphony, Piccoloist with the Winston-Salem Symphony, and has played second flute with the Western Piedmont Symphony since 2008.  She is the Adjunct Instructor of Flute at High Point University and maintains a private studio, the Winston-Salem Flute Academy, at her home in Winston-Salem.  Lissie received her Master of Music from The Juilliard School and her Bachelor of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Peter Shanahan

Peter Shanahan plays the piccolo and flute in the Western Piedmont Symphony.  He serves on the music faculty at Radford University and the Winston-Salem Flute Academy.  Peter frequently performs with many regional orchestras including the Winston-Salem Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, and Asheville Symphony.  He lives in Winston-Salem with his wife Lissie Shanahan, who is also a flutist and musician in the Western Piedmont Symphony.
